THE 2018 EDITION OF THE SILKROUTE AWARDS MEDALS TO WINES FROM ASIAN COUNTRIES
The results of the 2nd competition dedicated exclusively to Asian wine which took place in the city of Yinchuan, Ningxia autonomous region, on September 14, 2018, have been released. Three types of medals were awarded: Grand Gold, Gold and Silver. A total of 115 wines have been awarded, with 18 Grand Gold, 60 Gold and 37 silver medals.
For this second competition, nearly 800 wines from Asian countries competed before a selection of the world’s finest judges.
China did register a large number of samples to the competition and won 108 medals, with Ningxia at the top of the list with 65 awards.
- The Chinese award-winning wines were produced in the regions of Ningxia, Xinjiang, Hebei, Shandong, Gansu, Henan, Jilin, Liaoning, Neimengu, Tianjin, and Beijing.
- The most awarded Chinese wines were made from international varietals: Cabernet-Sauvignon (48 medals), Chardonnay (17 medals), Marselan (9 medals) and Merlot (7 medals).
- The competition was managed by the communication’s agency Vinopres with 25 years’ expertise in wine, spirits and beer competitions (Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Spirits Selection by CMB, Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, Brussels Beer Challenge).
- The asian origin of products competing and profiles of the judges are what makes the competition unique. These results will reap huge benefits for a wide range of Asian wine producers and distributors.
